About

The genesis of this blog started with my nephew sending me an e-mail with a detailing of the Canuck prospects. I had heard of most of the kids on the list but I certainly didn’t know the details and really hadn’t considered that anyone outside of Hodgson, Schneider, Schroeder and maybe Grabner were worth following. My nephew’s list is a great cheat sheet on who else is out there.

This got me to thinking that we might make a good team for following the Canucks. The Kid provides a younger ambitious viewpoint that hasn’t been dulled by so many great next Canucks stars moving through the system. He has an affinity for the young stars and can’t be more excited about Cody Hodgson breaking into the NHL. He loves Crosby, the shoot-out and believes that we are only a couple moves away from success in Canuck-land. 1994 is proof that we can win the Cup eventually.

I am more of a fan of Ovechkin, also think the shoot-out is great and I think our only hope of a Cup is a gigantic horseshoe working its magic at GM Place. 1994 is proof that the underdog can get close but rarely gets to sip from Stanley’s mug.

What I do believe is that the journey is what should be enjoyed and that the Stanley Cup is an amazing reward for when chance and talent align. Last season came to a disappointing end against Chicago but it was an exciting year with much to celebrate. I see 2009-10 as even more promising. Chicago looks pretty solid but has to dump some salary and has a questionable goalie behind them. Detroit is undoubtedly weaker and I see this season as their last great chance to carry Stanley away again. The rest of the West is wide open. Anaheim, San Jose and Calgary are in the same league as the Canucks and there does not seem to be a team following Chicago’s footsteps into the top of the Western Conference.

We plan to write about the year with a Canuck focus, including a bunch of Olympics talk and all of the rest of the happenings of the NHL sprinkled in. We will try to enjoy the foibles of Brian Burke and the Leafs as much as possible and will both hate the Flames for being the Flames and at the same time try to cheer on all of the Canadian teams on their quests for the Cup. I expect my nephew to have some great pieces with knowledge of stats and players that only a teenager can find the time to have. I will do my best to keep up.

Lastly I recently learned it is foolish to accept a challenge on trivia with The Kid. He challenged me to name the first round draft picks for the year. I was in trouble after the number 3 pick of Duchene to Colorado. I sputtered out a few more half right guesses before giving up. The Kid was perfect through the 15th player taken and was mostly right for the whole first round. I guess that means no more bullshitting when he is around.

  1. i agree with the prediction for capitals finishing 1st in league and i love you

    • The East is a monster this year with the defending Cup champ Pens, the President’s champion Bruins, the Caps with the best player on the planet and a Flyer team that has great talent. The West has the slowly fading Wings, the playoff challenged Sharks, the off-season craziness of the Hawks and the Prongerless Ducks all looking less than they did a year ago.
